Blogging with FarCry

Our MoveableType bit the dust so I've been unable to blog for an age. Finally got my act together and set up a FarCry based blog. This is way to easy.. should have started this caper a long time ago.

Disassembled the old MoveableType templates to whip up a webskin in a couple of hours -- so didn't really have to think about the design all that much. Just used a standard News content type in FarCry for blog posts, added some blog like categories to the category tree, and used the News publishing rule to list latest posts. Oh and turned on the built in RSS feed generation.

There are some obvious things missing that'll need to whip up in the next couple of weeks:

  • next/previous post navigation
  • commenting system
  • category and monthly archives

Not sure that I'll bother to stick in trackback, unless i can sort something out to block the incessant trackback spam I use to get on the old MT site. Plus the RSS export sub-system in FarCry needs a bit of an overhaul, at least to generate the ATOM feed format.

If you're not familiar with FarCry you'll probably not have the same success I've had getting a blog up and running, but I think I might put together a purpose built "webskin" for would be FarCry bloggers when I finish tweaking Daemonite. Of course anyone who wants to help could download, install FarCry and ping me on the farcry-dev mailing list:
