There have been several notable attempts at a decent Flash HTML editor. However, for anything but the most trivial content management, Flash really can't handle HTML very well. Composer offers renewed hope for a cross-platform rich text editor.
The Mozilla roadmap was recently revised, giving broad strokes on the future of the various pieces of the Mozilla suite of applications. Composer, the Mozilla HTML rich text editor has been given a new lease on life. Daniel Glazman outlines a vision for the future of Mozilla Composer on his blog. Coupled with the options being presented by the Midas Project, Composer is shaping up to be a very interesting editor option.

It will be interesting to see how they deploy an editor of this kind on a MAC. I think we could like with products like the soLite Editors, but they require ActiveX to run thus Macs get left in the cold.
Still, atleast someone appears to be making a proactive jump on something we all crave world wide (a WYSIWYG Editor X-Platform).

Though I haven't got a Mac to hand, I believe that the Mozilla Composer and Midas Project already work on MacOSX and other platforms.
