Blog Google ranks falling

I've noticed a lot of strange results coming out of Google in recent weeks. Things appear to have stabilised now, with the upshot of changes spelling a decrease in Google ranking for blogs in general -- well at least from where I sit.

BlogOld RankNew RankComments
Fullasagoog8/107/10Changes every 15mins
Daemonite8/107/10Changes daily
An Architect's View9/101/10Yikes!
CFGURU8/108/10Content here hasn't changed in a while
Jeremy Allaire9/109/10Still googling strong

From my own anecdotal evidence, Daemonite and Fullasagoog have massively increased in popularity and inbound linkages. CFGURU has by and large decreased.

Not sure what to make of it all just yet -- but it appears that there is a component of the Google ranking mechanism that is accommodating the unusual degree of inter-linkage between blogs, and adjusting blog page ranks downwards.

I reckon, they are still working hard on their strategy for ranking blogs and aggregators.

I noticed that as long as you're linked from another blog's homepage, it will rank you higher. But the moment those posts are archived you loose your rank. I could be an indication of how many people link to the site outside of blogrolls...

Well spotted.

Yes there have been major changes a foot at Google since early May. These continue to be discussed to death and beyond at http://www.webmasterworld.com/forum3/.

Unfortunately there are so many posts on the topic (there were literally thousands of posts in the thread discussing the May update) its hard to point you to anything really wraps it up. The best I can find is http://www.webmasterworld.com/forum3/13088.htm which is compiled list of everything GoogleGuy had to say through out the process.

The current thought is newer sites & lower ranking sites are suffering and that Google is moving towards a continous rolling update.
