It never ceases to amaze me how Jakob Nielsen can make money from stating the excruciatingly obvious. Much more interesting is DesignByFire's makeover of Jakob's recent Alert column.
At least this time he makes sense. Jakob's latest offering to the web community can be found here: Guidelines for Visualizing Links
DesignByFire's Design Eye for the Usability Guy makes the point of showing just how much good design can add to overall usability. Their content, design, and print makeover converts Jakob's bland prattle into something you'd enjoy reading.
For the sake of "usability" you would have thought the Nielsen group would have adopted one of the many alternate designs put forward. As it stands I find it ironic that useit.com is one of the ugliest and least readable sites in webdom.
