Last month ColdFusion debuted in the TPCI top twenty languages. August sees ColdFusion drop to 25th place, probably on the back of excitement for the newly released PHP 5.
"The TIOBE Programming Community index gives an indication of the popularity of programming languages. The index is updated once a month. The ratings are based on the world-wide availability of skilled engineers, courses and third party vendors. The popular search engines Google and Yahoo! are used to calculate the ratings. Observe that the TPC index is not about the best programming language or the language in which most lines of code have been written."
The TPCI is another one of these search engine artefacts trying to make sense of community enthusiasm by interpreting often fickle search results in an interesting way. Despite my misgivings over TPCI's approach, it's nevertheless encouraging to see general ColdFusion awareness increasing month to month.
Certainly we've been involved in a series of serious J2EE ColdFusion implementations this year that appear to represent at least a local trend in solidifying ColdFusion's place in enterprise architecture.
