The webDU Trading Card Game

written by Geoff Bowers on Thursday, 29 May, 2008 @ 04:30 PM

"All you have to do is submit a hand of our incredibly collectable trading cards to the friendly conference staff, and if it's one of the highest scoring hands, you could be in for a share of the goodies."

We've been working with Minty Hunter's awesome team at Nectarine and Kai "Cold Fusion Monster" Koenig to put together a little social engineering exercise at webDU this year: Trading Cards! It's fun, totally geek, and you never know you might meet someone while haggling for the best power deck.

Will it even work? Only time will tell -- its been a barrel of monkeys so far.

Geoff Bowers: Legendary Creature

Every card has a different rule, varying points and multipliers. You can get them from organisers, sponsors and conference celebrities. If you are feeling really adventurous, talk to people, swap information, swap cards -- you might like it.

Webdu: Trading Card Game

No stealing cards. No fake cards. No use of sexual favours to procure cards (except between consenting adults). Check the Conference Proceedings for all the fine print.

Any reason why there wasn't a James Talbot card. He has been coming since the beginning and I was really suprised.

We had ambitions of a complete deck of all speakers but costs and time was a significant factor. Working out who should be included or not was up to the designers, Nectarine. And I suspect their decisions revolved around the playability of the rules and flavours allocated to the final 15 card deck. I'm a great fan of the mighty Talbot, and would love to have his card in my collection :)
